Summary - Vitalnet basically runs on any computer.
Hardware and software requirements are minimal.
General requirements for Vitalnet software:
- Runs on all popular computers (Microsoft, Apple, Unix, Linux).
- Uses low amounts of disk space, depending on the number of fields and records.
- For example, 1980-1998 Texas death data requires 10 MB.
- For example, 1989-2003 California birth data requires 83 MB.
- Uses low amounts of RAM. Vitalnet runtimes use 1 to 2 MB.
- Takes less than a second to produce most output.
- Speed depends on cpu speed, but is acceptable even on older hardware.
- Analyses with huge numbers of records may take up to 10 seconds or so.
- Does not require other commercial software (SAS, SPSS, etc) to run.
VitalWeb Standard / VitalWeb Wizard -
Internet platforms.
VitalWeb Server - Back-end server program.
- Used by VitalWeb Standard and VitalWeb Wizard.
- Produces maps, tables, and charts, depending on user selections.
- Communicates with browser using CGI protocol (universal web standard)
- Runs on all common web servers (Linux, Windows, Apple, Unix)
VitalPro for DOS / VitalPro for Unix - Desktop platforms.
- Runs on any IBM-compatible PC, Novell LAN, or Microsoft LAN.
- Runs on any Linux computer or Unix computer.
VitalPro for Windows - Desktop platform.
- Runs on any Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, XP, or Vista computer.
Vitalnet Data Engine -
Used by all Vitalnet platforms.
- Written in the efficient C language.
- Specially customized for rapid analysis of large record-level data sets.
- Low data storage requirements (5-30 bytes / record).
- Produces results quickly (a few seconds for most analyses).
- Incorporated into VitalWeb Server.
- Incorporated into VitalPro platforms.
